We Are Closing Up Shop

The time has come. We are closing up shop. This has been a hard decision but ultimately the right one at this time. I started Calico and Twine in 2018 and it grew and grew. Eventually it became a full time job for both my mom and I which we enjoyed for many years. When I got married and had a baby, my mom took over all product production, shipping, inventory, farmers market, etc, while I just popped in here and there to do some admin work or answer customer service emails.

We have tried our best to not raise our prices too much these past few years, but the reality is, prices keep going up. Not only for our supplies—like oils for soap— but the hidden areas of running a business too. For example, when I started Calico and Twine 8 years ago, renting a PO box for 12 months was less than $100. Now, it's $100 for just 6 months. This kind of jump is reflected in many other business areas such as supply prices, insurance, required subscriptions, etc… and is simply out of our hands.

Because I no longer have the time to be as active with marketing, promoting, posting on social media, adding new and exciting ideas…you know, the things that keep people interested…we just aren't at a place where it's sustainable for us to keep going.

I could spend that time doing the marketing. But that is precious time taken from my family and managing my home, which are my first duties and primary vocation. Not everyone will understand this decision, but those that do, do. In our digital age, it's so easy to make money without ever leaving your house. But it's also very easy to be at home without actually being home. I don't want my family to know that version of me.

This is a bittersweet choice but ultimately the right one. Seasons of life ebb and flow and this doesn't mean we will never be back. We will see what happens! If ever we decide to do a small seasonal release or my mom decides to sell some of her soaps elsewhere, you will be the first to know. What we have listed on the site now is the last of our inventory and will be available to shop from until it's gone. My blog, digital ebooks, and affiliates will remain active on the site.

It has been a joy serving and connecting with all of our wonderful customers over the past 8 years. We wholeheartedly thank you for all the ways you have supported us.

With gratitude,

Kaetlyn
