Homemade Sweet Tea Lemonade

Ball mason jars are quintessential summer to me. Fill them with food, fill them with flowers, fill them with sweet tea. They make everything better. On these really hot summer days, I like to keep yummy drinks on hand in the fridge to enjoy over ice. Our lemonade pitcher chipped over the winter so this year I started using half gallon mason jars and they work wonderfully. The measurement marks on the side make recipes like this a breeze.

Sweet tea lemonade is my summertime drink of choice. Arizona’s Arnold Palmers are convenient to reach for, but high fructose corn syrup, natural flavors, sucralose, and acesulfame are just some of the questionable ingredients they contain. Pre-made drinks like that can also really hike up the bill at the grocery store. Homemade lemonades and teas are so much cheaper, healthier, and taste so much better. Here’s my go to recipe that takes less than 15 minutes!

WHAT YOU NEED

  • 4 cups of brewed english breakfast tea

  • 1 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice

  • 1/2 cup of cane sugar

  • 1-2 cups of filtered water or ice

STEP 1

Begin by brewing your english breakfast tea. You will need 4 cups of water and 4 teaspoons of loose-leaf tea (or 4 tea bags). I brew mine with loose-leaf tea in our organic reusable tea bags, to avoid any hidden pesticides and plastic that are often in prepackaged tea bags. Bring the water to a boil and pour over the tea bags. Steep for 5 minutes, squeeze, and remove.

STEP 2

Stir in the sugar while the tea is still hot and then pour in the lemon juice.

STEP 3

Add 1 or 2 cups of ice or water until it is your desired strength and then chill in the fridge. Serve over ice and enjoy!
