DIY Homemade Stain Remover

Hi friends! I wanted to share an all natural nontoxic stain remover recipe with you today! Conventional stain removers are full of toxins that cause cancer and disrupt hormones, and are not only harmful to our health, but to the environment as well.

Occasionally we source a piece with a few stains and are able to remove every last one with this recipe! We NEVER use chemical-filled stain removers or laundry detergent on our products. Wellness is a priority here at Calico and Twine.

A lot of DIY stain removers on Pinterest call for Dawn dish soap which is still not the best choice for a nontoxic home. Dawn contains artificial dyes, fragrances, chemicals, and lots of other ingredients that no one can pronounce. We use good old fashioned Castile soap here in this recipe and honestly I think it works even better than Dawn!

I wanted to share the recipe we use incase you're really good at getting food on your white shirts like I am! You can protect your health and the environment by using this all natural stain remover.

What you need:

  • 1 part liquid Castile soap (we like Dr. Bronners)

  • 2 parts of hydrogen peroxide

  • 2-3 drops of lemon essential oil (optional)

Add the ingredients to a glass spray bottle, keeping the soap to peroxide ratio 1:2.

Spray this mixture onto any stains, let sit for a few minutes (or hours depending on how tough the stain is!) and give it a good scrub before throwing into the wash.
